extra ="3 xencons=tty" 

seem to enable it to start working again, very strange but thanks to
everyone

well i've now added to the config file of the Vm the line

extra ="3 xencons=tty"

and now it works on the the 3.3.1 xen server...

maybe you can give it a try....
