Thread-topic: [Xen-users] RE: Xen 3.4.0, windows 2003 R2 installation crashes
OK - I figured this out, for me at least. As I stated, I was doing a
reinstall, so I was having the domU boot up with the CD ISO mounted and
re-installing into an existing domU configuration. Well, I forgot that I had
installed the GPLPV drivers in this domU, so the domU was configured as such.
I took at look at the SXP file for the domU and it contains the line '(driver
paravirtualised)' for various devices. Maybe it's that odd British/Canadian
spelling of the word 'paravirtualised' that does it :)

So, I started with a new domU and the install has gone smoothly.

Hope this helps someone else.

David

I have not, but I am not sure that I have an install disk for pre-R2
Win2k3 server. I'll try it if I can find one and report my findings.

I have to admit, I haven't installed any Win2K3 R2 servers on Xen since 3.0.3,
which is what came with CentOS 5.2. I just upgraded Xen and continued to run
the same domU images, without issue. I wonder if it has to do with the
'acpi'/'apic' settings in the domU config? It's been a couple of months, but I
remember something about having to set these to '0' during install and then
back to '1' after the install was done.

Have you tried installing Windows Standard then upgrading to R2?

I thought I was going crazy the first time this happened. I was reinstalling a
production domU on a production server and I turned around and saw the server
rebooting. So I tried it again, after hours, and I saw exactly what you did.
I have pretty much the same exact setup, but 32 bit.

Hi

CentOS 5.3 64-bit server with RPMS from Gitco's untested repository (=Xen
3.4.0).
I am testing to install Windows 2003 server R2, but when copying files goes to
99% it reboots whole server.
Is there anyone else who is also using same Xen version and tested windows
installation?

Terveisin/Regards,
