James was kind enough to help me get linux rdesktop (1) working to my WinXP 
domain. I heartily recommend it for performance over vnc.

Thanx, I forgot about that.

Wow - Rdesktop, where have I been all your life! Screen updates are faster 
(still not fast enough to play RealVideos), and I can bypass the buggy WinESD 
driver by adding the '-r sound:local' option to rdesktop to use the sound 
system of the computer I'm using rdesktop on. And I have my keyboard back 
(tho' it's still not shown in Device Manager). This has been a good day!
