------- Comment #2 from mangoo@xxxxxxxx 2007-02-08 04:38 -------
Mostly, with a significant disk activity, (Xen kernel, xend not running, no
domU guests), the machine just hangs for me totally, without even printing
"soft lockup detected on CPU#0!".

It still replies to pings, and magic SysRQ keys work (nothing more).

What's interesting about my setup is that the Xen server is a diskless node -
that is, everything (root filesystem, swap) are accessed over network using
open-iscsi (2.0-754).

It's very easy to hang the diskless machine running Xen kernel (xend not
running) by simply starting:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/file.zero

a couple of times - eventually, the machine will hang, with or without a "soft
lockup" message.
Other ways of triggering the freeze is removing a couple of RPM packages from
the system.

With a regular kernel (without Xen patches) the machine behaves totally stable.
