What happens if you type

configfile (cd)/boot/grub/grub.conf

at the GRUB prompt?  If this works, it suggests that GRUB isn't looking in the
right place in the first instance, but that it actually can access the CD and
read the file.

If it doesn't work, it suggests that GRUB is not able to read from the CD drive,
which might indicate some kind of BIOS-related problem.
