As an Open vSwitch upstream developer (and co-maintainer of the
Debian packaging), I recommend using only the Open vSwitch tools
if you are using Open vSwitch.  If you want to use the Linux
bridge tools with Open vSwitch, then you end up needing to load a
special "bridge compatibility" kernel module and run an extra
"ovs-brcompatd" daemon.

Based on my experience fixing up XenServer 5.x to use Open
vSwitch a few years ago, you will need to tinker with
/etc/xensource/vif and
/opt/xensource/scripts/InterfaceReconfigureVswitch.py.
