Thanks for all the help guys.

Strangely the problem appears to be an iso problem. I tried several iso downloads over cifs for installation, a known working cd I had burned from iso (used with no probs on xenserver) and finally I got the install working from a 2008 R2 (64) disk I unearthed from one of our MS subscription packs.

Very strange, but I must say that several attempts of downloading the iso from MS ended up in corrupt isos. I didn't need an md5 or sha test to verify as one of the downloads was 50Mb and the other was 500Mb of a 3Gb download.

So I am sure there is more to this than dodgey iso files, maybe release conflicts or something, but now I can move on from installing vms to configuring them.

Thanks again,

Chris

Hmm, there's nothing obvious in the VBD list - it all looks OK to me.

Does the problem occur using XCP 0.5?

The vm starts but the installation can't see a hard drive and get's stuck looking for drivers. Below is some data taken from the vm after the failed install.
