I've not tried it before, but I think
monitor=1
in the config file for that domain should do it. Its in
/etc/xen/xmexample.hvm (in a default xen install). You should be able
to turn it off after, but obviously you'll need to restart the guest
domain. Of course, you'll need to do that to turn it on as well.
