Hi,

I still have problem to get Debian Etch running under Debian Etch using the HVM (see my email "[Xen-users] Error: Xen 3.0.3 with Vanderpool to boot unmodified Linux from 06-12-22).

Since it seems to be easy to get Windows running, I tried to boot from a Knoppix ISO file. But that also hasn't worked. I used the following config file:

##########################################
kernel = "/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader"
builder='hvm'
memory = 128
shadow_memory = 8
name = "xen-ExampleHVMDomain"
vif = [ 'type=ioemu, bridge=xenbr0, ip=130.xx.xx.xxx' ]
disk    = [ 'phy:hot/dsl-boot-test2,sda1,w' ]
cdrom = '/root/KNOPPIX_V5.0.1CD-2006-06-01-DE.iso'
device_model = '/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm'
boot="d"
sdl=0
vnc=1
vncdisplay=1
stdvga=0
serial='pty'
#########################################

It seem that Xen recognizes that the CPU does support Vanderpool:

# xm info| grep hvm
xen_caps : xen-3.0-x86_64 hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64

But if I start the guest using the above config file "xm" doesn't return to the shell and the is no output to /var/log/xen. "xm list" says it is running but I cannot ping it...

Can you please help me how to get an unmodified Linux running within Xen. There seems to be a lot of doumentation for Windows but none for Linux...

TIA  Martin
