I don't think domUs are guaranteed to run on *older* versions of Xen than they
were designed for. Note that the converse case works: you can upgrade
dom0/Xen/tools and leave the domUs, but not the other way round.
Depending on the upgrade you are making, this may work, however I don't
believe we make guarantees about it always working (yet)...
