I didn't try IGD passthru recently because focus on other tasks. I'm sure IGD passthru on Xen-4.0 release. Allen enabled the IGD passthru on Calpella ans Sandybridge Recently. So I think xen-unstable should work. Maybe you can have a try.

Weidong

Dear Pasi,

Were instability issues with Intel integrated graphics (IGD) VGA passthrough in Xen 4.0.1 fixed with Xen 4.0.2-rc-pre?

I don't think I've seen anything related to that..

See the changelogs for yourself:
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenRepositories

Check both Xen hypervisor and qemu-dm changelogs.

Thank you very much.

Dear Weidong, Pasi, and Xen developers,

The report from Andrew confirms my reports that Intel integrated
graphics (IGD) VGA passthrough with Xen 4.0.1 and pv-ops dom0 kernel
2.6.32.21 is unstable.

Ok.

Please check the previous emails that I have sent to all of you.

I wonder what's the best way to troubleshoot this..

- Is it only the HVM guest crashing?
Yes. Only Windows XP HVM domU is crashing.

- No problems on dom0/hypervisor?
No. I was still able to access dom0 through Xen serial console after Windows XP HVM domU has crashed. I was able to execute the reboot command in dom0.

- Can you re-start the crashed windows?
No. I have to do a hard reboot of dom0.

I tried passing the integrated graphics adapter to the Windows domU,

tables are broken because passthrough doesn't work properly for either
the graphics or sound adapters (that, and Xen reports that the
motherboard supports none of the "optional" VT-d features like DMA
passthrough, etc.).

Dear Andrew,

I have briefly glimpsed through the technical specifications of your
ASUS motherboard.

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=XSm0g8qR5qb7UN30

At present, Xen 4.0.1 only supports Intel integrated graphics (IGD) VGA
passthrough. Add-on PCI Express x16 graphics cards are not supported
yet. Patches, which are currently unavailable, have to be applied to Xen
4.0.1. You may wish to passthrough your onboard VGA instead of your
NVIDIA GeForce GTS display card.

I am getting stability issues in VGA passthrough with Intel integrated
graphics (IGD), Xen 4.0.1, and pv-ops dom0 kernel 2.6.32.21 on my Intel
Desktop Board DQ45CB. Windows XP HVM domU crashes with a BSOD within 2
minutes after booting up.

Please try out Intel integrated graphics (IGD) VGA passthrough and let
me know whether you encounter any stability issues (Xen 4.0.1).

Thank you.

I am trying to pass an eVGA GeForce GTS 250 to a Windows XP 32-bit
domU. I am using an ASUS P7Q57-M DO motherboard (with the BIOS updated
to the latest version) with a Core i5-660 processor. I am using the
current unstable version of Debian as dom0 (kernel version
2.6.32-5-xen-amd64), with the current Debian unstable package of Xen
4.0.1. When I boot the XP domU with graphics passthrough enabled,
nothing happens (the domU starts up, but all I see are the last boot
messages from Xen).

I also tried passing through the onboard audio adapter to Windows XP,
and the driver loads and recognizes the adapter, but actually playing
sounds doesn't appear to work. I am not sure if the graphics
passthrough failure is related to the problem with the onboard audio
(and therefore a motherboard/CPU problem), or if it has to do with the
graphics card itself. I know that some NVIDIA cards require Xen
patches to be passed through, but I am not sure where to find patches
that will work with Xen 4.0.1 (the ones that I found were from August
2009, and I get failed hunks when I try to apply them to Xen 4.0.1).

Does anybody know if there are vBAR=pBAR patches available for Xen
4.0.1 (or if they have been integrated into the current Xen
development tree)? Alternatively, if this is a motherboard problem,
does anybody know of any LGA1156 motherboards that definitely have
working VT-d?
