Please comment on my plan to set up a NAS server with software raid in a
VM. It will be used in my home for mass storage purposes and performance
is not critical.

My intention is to import the disks as physical devices and then set up SW
raid (5) in the VM (HVM, unless you strongly suggest otherwise), possibly
with LVM on top to enable smooth migration to other storage when the day
comes (which it has a tendency to do...).
