The released 3.0.4 source can currently only be accessed via Mercurial:

hg clone http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-3.0.4-testing.hg

It'll be released properly from the download pages once packages have
been 
built, pages updated, etc.

I imagine the crash is probably a bug in Xen itself, so how you
configure 
the display would probably not make a difference.
