I think I am the author of the wrong code.  I had to write this code because
VPS_THASH was buggy.  I don't know if current the bug is fixed in the current
PAL.  It would be nice to know which PAL release has fixed the bug or add
a check after the vps call.

On the other side, long format VHPT is never read by Xen.
