Can you attach the full serial console output (that includes Xen bootup, kernel
logs, and then lastly the error you are seeing).

But you have a dmesg which implies you did boot the dom0?
So what is hanging? Grub2? - No kernel rc8

I don't have dmesg for Ubuntu 9.04 Server.
Dom0 hasn't booted up. Grub is legacy on 9.04
Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha has Grub2

You can buy two DB9-RJ-45 adapters (like this one:
