SUSE 10.0 (although it shouldn't matter because it's a kernel issue)

> which platform is the service OS running in, IA-32 or IA-32e?

64bit

Xen-unstable of two days ago or so.

I also found that most native OS I tried to boot didn't work
and hung at various stages
(older 32bit CentOS seems to be about the only one that didn't)
and there doesn't seem to be any way to get the state
of hung clients (gdbserver doesn't work on 64bit)
