Odd. What are you using to back hda4? A physical partition,
LVM volume, or a loop back file?  Does dom0 'dmesg' report any
errors? 

If you login, does the file system look OK? Does fsck fail if you
run it manually? Can you remount the file system rw? Do writes
otherwise seem to work?
