Absolutely.  When building kernel RPMs, I build i686, i686-smp,
i686-xen0 and i686-xenU kernels right after another, all from
the same source tree, with make "mrproper" inbetween builds.

It would seem reasonable that mrproper cleans up everything.

I can apply the patch and include it in the changset we send
upstream.

That would be useful to keep other kernel packagers from running
into the same (subtle) issue.
