For iSCSI, have a look at iscsi-init at sourceforge.
http://iscsi-init.sourceforge.net. Load it as a module in an initrd and
it uses some kernel parameters and automatically configures the network
and then connects to the designated target.

Just on the topic of iSCSI though, linux-iscsi 4.0.1.8 + iscsitarget
(sourceforge project names) causes corruption for me. 4.0.1.9 doesn't
but then iscsi-init doesn't work for that yet.
