If a save, restore, or migrate fails, there is a good chance that the error 
will 
be logged, but a very poor chance that the user will be explicitly notified.  
It 
is not unusual for xm restore to fail to exit because the restore has broken, 
and there is absolutely no chance of an xm migrate command seeing good error 
messages, because there's no protocol of exchange of errors from the remote 
restoring process to the local saving one.
