[Xen-users] making automated console screenshots
Hi,
has one of you implemented something that records the current VNC
console view periodically?
I'm thinking of the following setup:
- find out how to make a vnc session from cli that just snips one
picture and logs off
- do that every minute
- set linux systems to have the panic=60 commandline option
- if a VM goes to crashed or shutdown state, stop saving new pictures,
archive the last 5
and then when the box comes up again, they'll still be available for
debugging purposes.
This way I could have a console snap right next to the Xen VM
management (I used GPLHost DTC) for this.
It would help people to see the last console screens even after a VM
crashed, and ease up "searching for the right system" or anything
people
might want to do with it.
I had first thought about using netconsole to send the console
messages to a syslog server, but the screenshots pretty much win with
any end user.
Well, has anyone done stuff like this yet or is interested in working
on it with me?

the purpose of libvirt is to provide an abstraction layer hiding all
xen features added since 2006 until they were finally understood and
copied by the kvm devs.
