Well, based only on my theorycal knowledge, I guess it would be
possible to run an old kernel like that in HVM mode
(full-virtualization, specific hardware technology required). So, you
can't expect a very good performance, as you would have in PVM mode
(paravirtualized), which is the point where Xen becomes more
interesting and competitive, by the way.

Obs: I'm not aware of a xen modified kernel of 2.2 or 2.4 generation.
