I’m
new to Xen, although have plenty of experience with VMware products. Can anyone
answer these specific questions, without me having to research the arcane
nature of the Xen Server product.
1
Can
an assortment of .vmdk ESXi OS’s be converted without using the Windows
utility? For example, is there one built in the latest bare metal XenServer
Essentials so by just copying the .vmdk files using scp from the VMware server
directly to the XenServer the script will convert them one after another by
using a script overnight?
2
Does
XenServer Essentials have a ability for timed backups? Does the OS have to be
shut down, or can it run during the backups? I saw the metadata backup, but
that’s only a part of the puzzle.
3
Can
XenServer Essentials mount an external USB or eSATA drive for backup purposes?
4
Has
anyone written a blog post or anything describing the different flavors of XenServer
Essentials without resorting to jargon, that only means something once you know
the product?
5
What’s
the difference between the OpenSource Xen Server (v4?) and the Citrix XenServer
Essentials?
6
How
many CPU cores does XenServer Essentials support. VMware ESXi supports 6.
7
Anything
else a newbie needs to know.
Thanks
for your help,
Allan
