I could be wrong about this, but this behavior may be designed such that the
bridge can learn the MAC addresses that are available on each of the
interfaces. You might also want to look into the open-vswitch project - if
you're concerned about accurate traffic accounting and switch behavior, this
may be more to your liking. It also features abilities for things like port
monitoring, which would allow you better visibility into the traffic on your
bridges (switches).
