The problem appears to be the addition off;

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/xen/xend/server/blkif.py
          try:
              (typ, params) = string.split(uname, ':', 1)
              if typ not in ('phy', 'file', 'tap'):
                  raise VmError(
                      'Block device must have "phy", "file" or "tap" '
                      'specified to type')

I can get around it by adding drbd to it but means I have to edit eachdom0 and restart xend.

I  changed this below and recompiled python-xen-3.2 and working


(typ, params) = string.split(uname, ':', 1)
- if typ not in ('phy', 'file', 'tap'):
+ if typ not in ('phy', 'file', 'tap', 'drbd'):
raise VmError(
- 'Block device must have "phy", "file" or "tap" '
+ 'Block device must have "phy", "file", "tap" or "drbd" '
