I'm not sure, but I think I also had this error with OSS 10.1 and if I remember correctly it was a problem with the graphical pre-boot-screen!

Unfortunately I didn't found a soloution and used OSS only in paravirtualized guests what was no problem at all!

Maybe you can try to install OSS 10.2 with the lastest qemu and use this image with xen as HVM later!
