4x1GB RAM installed. The BIOS shows all 4GB on boot. It's an Intel

Most likely scenario is that your motherboard/chipset/BIOS doesn't
suport "memory hoisting", which is when memory covered by PCI devices is
remapped above 4G - or perhaps you haven't selected that option in the
BIOS?

Thank you Mats. Obvious really once pointed out ;-) I'm positive that
you pin-pointed the reason. I'll double check the BIOS settings when I
next get a chance.
