[Xen-users] Problem Installing Windows XP Pro in Xen 3.0.3 (Built from S
I've got an AMD64 dual core system at home that is running Gentoo Linux
2006.1. I am specifically building it for running Linux and Windows VM
domains. I'm using LVM2 for the VM file systems and am currently
running the VMs as root. I did a Gentoo 32-bit install in a VM and
everything seemed to go fine, but after installing it, I had trouble
getting it to boot. However, this has to do with issues (can't find the
root device at boot time) unrelated to the Windows problem (can't format
"Drive C:"). My problem with Windows XP is that I can boot and things
are VERY slow as I expected, but as soon as I get to the MS Windows
portion of formatting the drive (again an unformatted LVM logical
volume), there is a long delay (five to ten minutes) and then a message
saying that the disk wasn't responding and can no longer be used. The
partitioning seems to work OK and I'm running xm create as root along
with the proper perms on the /dev/xenspace/winxp logical volume. I
also checked privs and perms on /dev/mapper/xenspace-winxp as well and
they are correct for root to have full access.
Previously, I've gotten XP to install (with Xen 3.0.2) but it wouldn't
boot properly. Part of me suspects that the real problem is the NVidia
IDE controller on the MoBo interacting oddly with the Xen0 Linux
kernel. I'm not sure though... as Domain0 runs very well. Any ideas?
Thanks,
George
