ahh, missed a detail. With all the diskless setups, it is best to tell the system not to turn off eth0 during switches to run levels 0, 1, and 6 ... e.g. chkconfig --level 0123456 network on With nbd and enbd, it may also be a good thing to comment out the "killall5 -9" in /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt ... otherwise the nbd-client and/or enbd-client programs get killed and the shutdown stops.
