HVM is an abstraction layer for both Intel's VT-x and AMD's SVM, so that
common parts can be shared.

VT-I is Intel's virtualization support for Itanium. HVM was developed for x86
virtualization, because there's two implementations there that need to share
code. There may be some scope for sharing between HVM and VT-i but there's
less in common because they're aimed at different platforms.

HTH,
Mark

Mark: To answer a question with a question: What use is a skateboard?
Dave: Skateboards have wheels.
Mark: My wheel has a wheel!
