Yes, List, I am an UML user that already have a real machine
running 8 UML for:
UML1..UML4 are used for connection to one leased line
that is used for incoming/outgoing mail and incoming
webmail accesses:
UML1=internal firewall, connected to internal LAN
UML2=mailrelay/dmz
UML4=webrelay/dmz
UML3=external firewall, connected to the NET
UML5 and UML6 are used for connection to one ADSL line
that is used solely for outgoing http requests and
related incoming responses:
UML5=proxy, connected to internal LAN
UML6=adsl, connected to the NET and authenticanting
UML7 and UML8 are used for connection to our second
ADSL line that is used solely for outgoing http
requests and related incoming responses:
UML7=proxy, connected to internal LAN
UML8=adsl, connected to the NET and authenticanting
All of that is in production for over a year, no
problems but very few crashes (+- 5) during that time.
So, I report it as stable.
-------------------------------------------
Now comes that we are changing to SuSE 9.2 and UML
just do not comes up. So, Xen is it. The virtual
machines are slightly different:
VM1..VM4 are used for connection to one leased line
that is used for incoming/outgoing mail and incoming
webmail accesses:
VM1=webrelay, directly connected to WEB
VM2=backup link to web
VM3=mailrelay, directly connected to WEB
VM4=internal firewall, directly connected to LAN
VM5 is for connection to the first ADSL line
VM6 is for connection to the second ADSL line
VM7 is directly connected to WEB, for SSH/VPN from outside
VM8 is directly connected to WEB, for external DNS
VM9 is directly connected to WEB, for external home page
-------------------------------------------
The hostess machine is just installed with SuSE Linux
9.2 Professional, minimal distro + compilation utilities
and Xen dependencies.
Xen was compiled and installed with no errors, GRUB was
changed, tls was disabled, and not needed services were
disabled. The machine came up as a breeze :)
-------------------------------------------
Now I am at the VM configuration step. And I am
sending this email because now I have the time
to think what I am writing.
In the future, when I have some questions, I will
point you to this email, so you can remember all
that and our lives will be easier.
Also, I hope to have everything documented, may
be I can put it into a web page for everybody.
Thanks!
