I tried:

        xm sysrq $vps 9
        xm sysrq $vps t

nothing shows up on the guest's console, nor in xm dmesg.

Same for doing ^O-9 ^O-t / ^o-9 / ^o-t on the guest's console. 
CONFIG_MAGIC_SYSRQ is enabled in the domU kernel.
