It's a long time since I used the 1.2 tools, but I think this
might just be a warning when it creates the database for the
first time.

All of the VD stuff has gone away in the xeno-unstable tree (soon
to be 2.0) as you can now achieve the same effect by using lvm to
export re-sizeable volumes to domains.

I wouldn't advise getting too attached to VDs given their
impending demise. We'll certainly be encouraging everyone to move
across to 2.0.
